Dear BC: Just as you have (rightly) accepted contemporary Chinese Communism (actually, an unabashed form of post-industrial capitalism) as a superior evolved mode of production, grant us too mere mortals the right to change saratorially.
Without doubt, the lungi is a superior garb. Both in terms of economics, aesthetics, lack of (needless) design, and on health grounds too (in a context where the declining fertility rates are alarming). Not without reason has it travelled far and wide, unlike say our own humble six-letter word (kashti). We were gifted nice, Tamil-made lungis in Penang a year or two ago. The only debate really on now is whether we should prefer white or coloured. My preference is the latter, as it saves on dhobi bills too. Your (perhaps deliberate) ignorance of Pathanamthitta in Central Travancore is noticeable, so why this content for the Old Goa/ Ponda Taluka of Kerala? I tried to do some pop research online to find out of the flag belonged to some Dalit group or the KSU, and whether that could be the reason for some additional contempt to it. Just imagine if one's pants had to catch fire... and what the consequences could be.
