Thank you for that input JC. I had heard of the Miraj Hospital but mainly from Gulf Arabs with kidney ailments who bypassed Bombay in favor of the treatment there. Didn't know it was called Wanles after a Canadian. Would appreciate other input also as many Goanet folk would be knowledgable about the Nurses especially a certain generous doctor EP an alumnus of the GMC Bombay. COMMENT: You are very welcome RF. May I repeat my appreciation for your article and how well it was written. My hope is that many more such articles flow from your and other netters cyber-pens. The info (wrt the Wanless Hospital) is from research notes. As you probably know the West of India Portuguese Railway was the most facile method for Goans to travel to Miraj. With the reputation of the Wanless hospital and the availability of rail transport ...it is easy to understand why Miraj was a choice location in those days... BTW: I understand that it continues to have a great reputation - which is probably why the Arab patients head there. There is some info on Wanless http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_James_Wanless jc ps: Why Goan nursing 'collapsed' in Goa ... is another story. It is a sequel to Bandodkar's 'creative advertising' protocol. On another day.
