If anyone has had the good fortune of living among the 'caste-slaves' like I have had (in Poona), you would never consider it to be 'self-inflicted'. Slavery is always IMPOSED. As it is structured and practised today, it will be impossible to dust off all the demeaning facets of this abomination, any time soon. e: What do desi folks do when they are looking for a groom or bride for their eligible daughter or son? How do these folks of this alleged 'Indian race' react when their son or daughter expresses an interest in marrying another person from the 'Indian race' who is from another 'caste' or 'subcaste'? Do the marriage adverts say? 'Wanted an Indian'? Any comment on those 'honour killings' and 'suicides following the elopes'? f: Please remember to give me a break. There is enough of revisionism, denial and hypocrisy around for this simple mind to believe in smoke. e: I also disagree that people from the Indian subcontinent hate themselves. They may hate a neighbour who is of a different religion or state, despise someone of a lower/higher 'caste', and dump their garbage on anybody who passes by on the street down below, but I seriously doubt they hate themselves or India. f: I have NO evidence that anybody from the subcontinent hates the following which is associated with India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka: Food, Films, Fashion, Cricket, Field Hockey or Football. If you have such evidence, please place it on the table. g: IMHO, what a good number among the populace of the subcontinent definitely hate are the following (at least): Moral policing by the Rt Wing nuts, Molestation, Rapes & Gang-rapes (esp by those in a position of power) and (until recently) societal indifference, cover up and even justification. (BTW: Practicing Catholics do not hate the Catholicism. They are totally disgusted (I know I am) by the abuse and cover by those charged with the running of the Church) h: The vocal populace of the subcontinent also have expressed their revulsion at the rampant corruption and subjugation to a life of corrupt practices in which they almost have to participate, in order to organise simple legitimate things (like a phone, an electricity connection, contesting elections etc). I imagine that Goans are not too pleased with the filthification of their once beautiful and serene Goa - but have no choice but to accept their Karma. If anyone thought that Goans could turn to the police or judicial system (including lawyers) for help, I wish you well. i: If one looks impartially at the trouble spots on the subcontinent, one will surely see that those in power are IMPOSING their will unreasonably on the people of those areas. In 2013, the populace is tired of nuevo-dictators be they from the fascist right or commie left. They don't hate the country, they hate the con-men and con-women who are ripping the resources and wasting taxes while having 'folga'. IN SUMMARY: Please stick a pin or drink a tall cool glass of water or both. Nobody hates any country. Even Cuban Americans who hate the commies in charge, don't hate Cuba. The Portuguese anti-Salazarists who went into exile hated Salazar and his dictatorial policies, not Portugal! That they returned post Salazar-Caetano and generated this financial mess, is another matter. Commie-Socialism does that to a country and its finances. About time for Portugal to get back 'Salazar' (minus his dictatorial nonsense) to do again to the finances what he did when he first came to power. The same with India and wsrt Goans. I know, however, a number of folks who hate the con-folks who are ripping the people ad infinitum.
