PREVENT THIS MENACE
The information of 14,263 cases of dog bites and Rs1.26 crore spent by the government on anti-rabies vaccines last year drew a surprisingly mild response from our elected representatives! There never is a prevention better than cure attitude. Besides what is already in force has proved most impractical and inadequate. Instead of a war footing, no new solutions or ideas were even discussed. Monkeys are seen in Panaji and people photograph, whilst monkeys are surveying the area to bring down their tribes when they have located the market and orchard areas. The goan villages are already suffering the monkey menace,and what are our forest department, veterinary and health departments doing?Nothing!In Delhi the monkey menace forces people to barricade their houses in fear, and patients with monkey bites are increasing like our dog bites!National Geographic television showed frightening details.We have Leopards and big cats even in Vasco!We thoughtlessly keep destroying and encroaching on their habitats and forests. It is high time the RP 2021 is finalized. Alarm bells must ring in the Vidan Sabha to wake up the government departments to act to prevent this menace from proliferating whilst it is still controllable!
