Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues, CCP Subject – Installation of Traffic Signals and Zebra Crossing near St. Inez Church Dear Sir, Following requests from Parishioners and other residents from the area who were finding road crossing near the St. Inez Church extremely difficult on account of heavy flow of traffic, a Resolution for the installation of rumblers/speed breakers near the St. Inez Church was moved, which was unanimously passed by the Council. That however, the Traffic Police who were of the opinion that such rumblers/ speed breakers would cause Traffic jams in the area, suggested the Installation of Button operated Pedestrian Traffic Signals along with Zebra Crossing near the St. Inez Church after holding consultations on the said matter with Hon’ ble CM Manohar Parrikar. Accordingly, Mr. Dharmesh Angle, the PI Traffic Cell, Panaji vide letter dated 24/9/2012 requested the Commissioner, Corporation of the City of Panaji to install the Traffic Signals along with Zebra Crossing on priority basis for ensuring the safety of the pedestrians in the area. The said works have not been carried out as yet. The residents of our locality especially the senior citizens are facing great difficulties and dangers while crossing the road to attend mass, church services and/or otherwise and there have also been accidents in the area. You are requested to kindly look into the matter, give your personal attention to the issue and carry forward the process of installing Zebra crossing and Pedestrian signals near the St. Inez Church at the earliest, keeping in view the heavy and continuous flow of traffic in the area and the urgency and necessity in carrying out the said installations for ensuring public safety. Your quick response and action in the matter will be greatly appreciated.
