Re: Somewhere between leftist nonsensical platitudes and rightist
'grabiliciousness', you have forgotten the people who live there (Goa)

Mervyn Lobo <[email protected]> responded thus:

1: The people who live there ( ? MOPA ? Goa) do not have 24 hour electricity.

2: This is the year 2013 and most do not even have water 365 days a year.

3: I cannot tell the residents of Goa how they should live. I can, however,
point out that if every successive govt can get away without providing basic
needs like electricity and clean water then

4; however much the residents yap, they are missing the whole concept of
government and the PREMISE of Mopa.

Mogal Mervyn

a: I will start by stating that our house in Velim had water 365 days of the
year until recently when the water table started drying up. ( You could
conveniently blame it on Global Warming)

b: The sad story about Goa is that all the 'Gold Diggers' from wherever came to
Goa with Promises and Premises. A zillion jobs and glorious freedom was
PROMISED. All Goans have to do, is to get to the other side of the Rainbow.

c: Anjadiva has been swiped, Dabolim is being 'quieted' and a good part of Goa
is being dug up and concretized sans planning or regard for Goa's environment;
and the water and energy needs for all this?

d: What has Goa got in return besides polluted rivers and negative water and
power supply?

e: Have you seen the state of the public Hospitals? Is that how they were
before the Hunky Dory?

f: Have you seen the state of Public Squatting, Paan Spitting and allied
"activities" in public, NOT to mention the garbage and crime? Is that how they
were before the Hunky Dory?

g: You ask a very good question about Elections. A better set of questions
would be these:
(1) who decides which candidates get the 'ticket' to contest?
(2) where is this decision made?
(3) on what basis is this decision made?
(4) what happens to candidates who refuse to toe the "Bhaillo Line" and contest
as independents?
(5) what do you personally know about the machinations controlling elections
esp in Goa?
(6) what do you know about the Press, its advert-based control and its
influence on the public?
(7) what is the eventual effect of the continued repetition of half-truths and
other misrepresentations?
(8) how do elected officials become disproportionally hyper-wealthy?

h: If you have not much personal knowledge of the above, it might be wiser to
gain some before teaching a course at the Open University.

jc
ps: My gut feeling is that like Anjadiva, Dabolim will go and MOPA will happen.
The forces of reason and sense will be overcome by the In-Vested interests who
will be aided, albeit unwittingly by the Mervyns and Tims of this world AND the
lines outside the Portuguese Consulate and at the Swindon Employment centers
will get even longer, AND we will all be celebrating Hunky Dory every year.
