Mr Naik who discussed the matter with Minister of State for Consumer Affairs ,Shri K V Thomas in Jawahar Bhavan today where a two days workshop is being held , told Mr Naik that although as per the Food Security Act calculations, Goa can get only 36 lakh of food grains, Goa's quota will not be disturbed. Mr Naik was given the assurance when Mr Naik told the Minister that there were reports in a Goa daily that the National Food Security Ordinance which proposes to sell subsidised wheat and rice to 67 per cent of the 1.2 billion Indians, will, result in Goa getting less food grains. Reports said that Presently, around 80 per cent of the 14.57 lakh Goan population, including the above poverty line (APL) families receive the subsidised food grains by way of ration cards through 500 fair price shops around the state. After the implementation of the legislation, only 39 per cent of Goans would be entitled to this benefit, while 61 per cent population of the state would not be able to purchase subsidised food grains. Mr Naik who also spoke to Mrs Renuka Chowdhary , who was deputed by AICC to visit Goa to explain the Provisions of Food Security Act told Mr Naik that she could not visit the State as she fell sick but ,she also confirmed that Goa's quota will not be reduced. * * *Shantaram Naik*
