Justice Syed Rafat Alam, the Chairman of Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has been urged to immediately sack Leena Mehendale as the member of the Bombay Bench of CAT.
Justice Alam’s attention has been drawn that Leena Mehendale had falsely stated in her biodata which is on the CAT website that she had in 2010 obtained an LLB degree from Bombay University. Justice Alam has been informed that Bombay University officials had shockingly revealed that Leena Mehendale did not complete her law degree and consequently her claim was a patently false statement. >From the mark sheets of the semesters she had appeared it can be seen that she had just struggled to scrape through with pass class in the papers she had answered. Pointing out that as per the University records, the results of the semesters she had appeared in 2008 and 2009 were surprisingly kept in reserve and only declared in 2010, Justice Alam has been told that it needs be probed whether Leena Mehendale had misused her official clout as then Additional Chief Secretary of Maharashtra to manipulate those results to her benefit and that her answer papers need to be now re-assessed. Justice Alam has been also informed that sources in the Maharashtra Secretariat had shockingly revealed that Leena Mehendale had also not obtained the required permission of the Maharashtra Government to enroll herself for the law studies and that such an act constitutes gross misconduct more so when it comes from a high ranking official who is now occupying the very high position as CAT member. Leena Mehendale after attending a CAT conference in Delhi on March 16th this year had flown directly to Goa on March 17th and stayed till the 20th having visited the controversial Sanatan Ashram at Ramnathi on 19th March. Justice Alam has been now asked to verify whether the expenses of that private visit to Goa were borne by her or paid by the Bombay Bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal of which she is a member. The conduct of Mrs. Mehendale more particularly the falsifying of her educational qualification would under no circumstances entitle her to continue in the high position as Member of the Central Administrative Tribunal. Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Parrikar has now selected Leena Mehendale to be Goa’s Chief Information Commissioner. What a disgrace.
