The Supreme Court hearing in the Goa mining case has begun yesterday. The High Court was told that Advocate General Atmaram Nadkarni was going to Delhi to be in the Supreme Court. Despite hearing having begun, Atmaram Nadkarni was conspicuous by his absence.
It was shocking to hear last evening that Atmaram Nadkarni was spotted in Kochi at Kerala. And no, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who coincidentally was also out of station yesterday was not in his company. So why was the High Court misled by the First Law officer of the State? Has Atmaram Nadkarni gone to Kochi to inspect a Pattaya type service station or is it for some divine intervention? We will now have to keep a close watch on the whereabouts of Atmaram Nadkarni every time he crosses Goa's borders. Has he become habituated in taking the government and the Courts for a ride? There is an old adage: You can fool someone at some time but cannot fool everyone all the time. May we learn from our elders.
