BC,

When commenting on or reviewing a thesis, one (best) reads the entire thesis,
looks at the references and also the known biases of the guide.

For instance, if you (BC) were the guide, the thesis would have a distinct
slant, would it not?

I am happy that Goans are working towards Ph.Ds. It is never easy to put
together theses at the PG level. A thesis takes much sweat plus several years
to complete, and then ....there is the defence.

One does not have to agree with the conclusion/analysis of a thesis or any
other scholarly ( or otherwise ) publication, and one does not just dismiss the
thesis based on other works unless one puts the other works through the same
tests.

The thesis being referred to, is the work of Sandra Ataide Lobo. Anyone among
us is welcome to re-research the topic and submit our own thesis.....if we are
able to.

For now, let us Congratulate Sandra Ataide Lobo for her scholarly effort.

This kind of theory has been rubbished by 'intellectuals' from Goa. Hindus were
the largest benefactors of Portuguese presence in Goa. First it was the request

different types of businesses mainly related to the mining sector which was
founded in 1907.

O desassossego goes (The Goan restlessness)

Teotonio R. de Souza

Sandra Ataide Lobo defended yesterday her doctoral thesis in which she
studied the Portuguese liberal politics in Goa till the Colonial Act (1930)
and the participation of the Goan elites (both Christian and Hindu).

The ambivalence of the Portuguese liberalism, including its republican
phase, failed to do justice to the colonial demands, and sought to impose
"portugalidade", earlier through official Catholic religion, and in the
republican phase through imposition of the Portuguese language.

The study took into account the impact of the English political model in
neighbouring Indian territory, and how the Goan elites sought to move
between the two.
