Countdown begins: Lusofonia Games 2014 goes live

PANAJI: Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar launched the official Lusofonia Games 2014 website on Friday.

The Games website www.lusofoniagames2014.gov.in is available in English and Portuguese.

"The official website will include exciting updates on the Games, comprehensive information, links to schedules and results, as well as news, information for media and a regularly updated photo and video gallery," said Keshav Chandra, CEO, Lusofonia Games.

"A countdown timer tracks the days, hours, minutes and seconds leading up to the prestigious international sporting event. Today we are 105 days away from the Games," he said.

A large number of people from the Portuguese-speaking countries have turned their attention to Goa which will be hosting the Games. The website is the best medium available for sports fans tracking the Games to keep themselves informed on their favourite teams, competition matches, medal tallies and receive exciting sports updates.

Athletes from 12 Portuguese commonwealth nations will compete in nine different sporting disciplines - athletics, basketball, beach volleyball, football, judo, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball and wushu.

A section for sports fans will be added to the website which will include information on merchandise, mascot, video and photo galleries and links to social media platforms.

A comprehensive section has been dedicated to the media which will include information on press operations, media accreditation process, press releases, photographs and a comprehensive media guide.

The website also carries information on the volunteer programme. The organizing committee has received 2967 volunteer registrations so far. LUGOC, Goa has associated with India's premier B-school, Goa Institute of Management (GIM) for Volunteer training sessions which will begin by the first week of December

The 3rd edition of the Lusofonia Games will be held from January 18-29, 2014 and will see participation from over 1500 athletes and officials from 12 nations.

Participating countries include Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, East Timor, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea- Bissau, Goa (India), Macau (China), Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe and Sri Lanka.
