Hi there, Just to let you know of the development status of the incoming 014 release-candidate: yesterday Detsch and I took some time to reflect on what should be removed from the CD so that all our standard applications could fit on it. A first version of the ISO was created prior to that, with 770MB in size, without OpenOffice. We decided to remove some printer drivers (GutenPrint), performed some package cleanups (Mesa went from 220mb to 36mb), and removed some KDE applications that were not really necessary.
In the meantime, Jonas sent some security patches for Xorg, and I recompiled that package again. /Files/Codecs/MPlayer is also gone now; MPlayer now looks for its codecs at /System/Links/Shared/mplayer-codecs, populated by MPlayer-Codecs-All and MPlayer-Codecs-Essential recipes. Due to (potentially) licensing problems, the codecs would not be shipped with the ISO, though. A new kernel image has been created, too, based on 2.4.20.4, with UTF-8 support and updated UnionFS patches. It has been compiled with GCC 4.1.2. The missing pieces now to release a public ISO for testing purposes is an OpenOffice package and creating stable versions of our tools. It might be interesting to perform a feature freeze on the CVS, until we stabilize and fix known problems. I suggest doing that now. Well, that's it. I'd like to make this pre-release available in the start of the next week (maybe even this weekend).
