I think this is a superb idea. Not least because it would enable me to write some cool Gobo-related code this summer (since I am an undergraduate college student, and otherwise I will have to get a job preventing me from doing anything worthwhile, as in previous summers.) I have actually done some preliminary work on a FUSE filesystem to help manage the Links tree, which I had intended merely for convenience purposes, but which could conceivably grow into /System/Index. I haven't had any time to really go anywhere with that, but Summer of Code would be ideal. Or anything else you guys come up with, of course. The salient requirements for the mentoring project (paraphrased from http://code.google.com/soc/2008/faqs.html ) seem to be: 1. An "Ideas" list for students to choose from 2. An organization administrator who should a. Submit the organization's application to Google; b. Act as the main point of contact between Google and the organization; c. Respond to any inquiries from Google within 48 hours; d. Assign a backup mentor should a mentor be unable to work with a student; e. Ensure all program evaluations are completed on or before the deadlines. 3. A person or group responsible for review and ranking of student applications 4. A person or group responsible for monitoring and mentoring each accepted student 5. A person or group responsible for taking over for a student's assigned mentor in the event they are unable to continue mentoring, e.g. take a vacation, have a family emergency 6. A written evaluation of each student participant, including how s/he worked with the group, whether s/he should be invited back should we do another Google Summer of Code, etc. _______________________________________________ gobolinux-devel mailing list gobolinux-devel@lists.gobolinux.org http://lists.gobolinux.org/mailman/listinfo/gobolinux-devel
