hi,

i just digged up the zeroinstall source code a bit, i tried to archive
the following goals:

        * have zeroinstall install programms
          to /Programs/<Appname>/<Digest>

        * make a symlink from /Programs/<Appname>/<Digest> to
          /Programs/<Appname>/<Appversion>

        * development packages if any should be installed with the
          installation of 0install packages, because compile depends on
          headers

after some try and error and code research i see that the stores in
0install heavy depend on having the packages cache in the format
<cachedir>/<digest>/
