Ah, one more thing: what about HAL? Looks like it is deprecated, but some stuff I tried here refused to compile without it installed (PulseAudio and/or some of its dependencies, IIRC). For others (Avahi, is one of them, I think) I had to explicitly --disable-hal to have them compile.
