The first answer depends on more questions to language independent requirements such as: 1) are you using TLS/HTTPS for first tier traffic protection? 2) what threat model do you have (what threats do you worry about? what do you deliberately ignore? Who are the bad guys? 3) How valuable is the information you are sending, retrieving, etc.?) 4) how much do you trust the remote client? 5) how paranoid are you? 6) do you trust some third party middleware?
