Adam, thanks for reminding me of that feature and you're right, it
might just mitigate the need for the dropdown to be high up on the
page.

James, that's a mighty slick implementation!  Not sure what the JS
looks like but I'm guessing it's pretty complicated.  I also briefly
experimented with something similar but had big problems page layout -
the divs I had to add for the JS to work seemed to throw everything
off.

FWIW, I've got 15 sites running under WPMU for our elementary school
so lots of moving parts.
