I can observe the problem with a Blackberry 8310 simulator running OS 4.5.0.55.
(I cannot use OS 4.5.0.81 for this test, because that version simulation apparently has issues preventing connection to the MDS simulator. Using OS version 4.5.0.55 I can observe the "null" alert message that you mentioned. I believe that alert may arise when the JS API encounters some difficulty in creating a certain HTML element.)
