you could some how off load the data store to a memcache or hadoop instance instance in EC2, but you have, but you have to run all the queries and writes over https scripts that interacts with the storage engine in ec2. It would most likely have a performance hit . I have done similar type of solution which works for a web based app, but may not be fast enough for a game.
