I think this is the direction too but the message on the console is questionable since backends is a GA feature while modules is in preview mode and another message (see here) states:
"This is a Preview release of the Modules service and its APIs. Please be aware that the APIs and service behavior may change before the service becomes a General Availability release. Also note that this Preview release is not covered by any SLA or deprecation policy." For a production site I would wait until modules becomes GA to start the migration...
