I did follow that document when initially setting up sendgrid in my project. To be sure, I did double check to make sure everything conformed. July 3rd was the last time I received emails from App Engine. I tested using myself as a receiver (I always received them during my testing) and all of this functionality works perfectly when I do it locally. The only thing I did notice just now, is my trial ended and after that the emails stopped working on App Engine. I did go back and ensure that billing was enabled for my project.
