Hi there, my company is moving off of our old groupware system to
something new. I have been advocating Google Apps. However, the
biggest barrier at this time is the lack of a file server-type
functionality in Google Apps (Google Docs allows you to upload only
limited types of documents).

Does anybody have any ideas as to the best way to incorporate a file
server with Google Apps? The other groupware solutions that we are
evaluating all include integrated file server functionality with the
groupware package. Without an 'integrated' file server we cannot
consider Google Apps as a solution (my company has 200-300 email users
that is is a fairly big account). Here is the general idea:

Upon creation of a particular file on the file server an email is
generated and sent automatically to the Gmail accounts of certain
users with permissions to access the file. Inside the email is a link
to the newly created file in the file server.

Problem 1: From the Internet, the user must be able to click on the
link in the email and access the newly created file on the file server
without entering any additional user/password information. The fle
server should use the Google Apps session information to authenticate
the user. The session information must be tied to Active Directory
because only users in certain AD user groups are allowed to access the
file. Will it be possible to do all of this using Google APIs, Active
Directory, and some file server software?

Problem 2: Which file server software should I use? The user must also
be able to browse files on the file server that he/she has permissions
to access via a web browser and a nice GUI. Oh yeah, the GUI must be
in Japanese.
