In my test case, I upload 4 messages to a gmail account. Two are given
a delivery date in EST (November), two are given a delivery date in
EDT (July). When displayed in GMail, the 2 that were created in EDT
have a correct time, the other 2 have a time that is 1 hour later.

For example:
EDT creation date/time = 11/12/07, 1:23pm EST, converted to GMT is
11/12/07 6:23pm GMT
Displays in GMail as 11/12/07 2:23pm

My diagnosis is that when Google converts the posted GMT time to local
time, it does not take the date into account. If "today" is EDT (which
it is), then looking only at the time will give the correct -4 hours
difference (GMT to EDT) for the messages with EDT dates. Google is
apparently applying the same differential (-4 hours) to the times
occurring in November, which is incorrect (should be -5 for EST),
yielding a time that is 1 hour later than it should be.

Here is the debug log showing that all times posted to Google are in
GMT:

Hi Tad,

I just left you a VM -- unfortunately, the two Macs in B10 were
stolen. We're
in the process of confirming serial numbers and filing a police
report. My
understanding is that there is also copies of software for your class
on those
two machines, so I'm not sure what response needs to happen there.
I've
notified the department and cc'd the appropriate folks here so that
everyone is
aware of what occurred over the weekend.

I am so sorry to hear that they are gone. Usually I have 5 computers
with my
software. This year, one has not been working and now 2 additional
ones are
gone so that leaves me with only two computers to use. Can we move
the apples
from the other wall to where the missing ones were are reload the
software? I
can work with Eddie directly if you prefer. Let me know what we can
do so I
can plan my class accordingly.

Wendy,

Thanks for that part of the clarification, but the rest of my concerns
remain.
If you need a hole in our firewall to be able to connect, then is the
MSVPN not
being used anymore? I *really* need to see an accurate, up-to-date
requirements sheet before I'm willing to move forward. I also need
to
understand exactly what services you need access to on the Bb
machine. We do
not give unfettered access to vendors to any production system.

If necessary, perhaps we should arrange a conference call for next
week with
the engineering folks on your end.

To what do you need the web servers to connect? We don't allow
outside
boxes unfettered access inside the firewall, so I'll need to know
exactly
what systems your hoping to access. Also, I thought the whole idea
was to
enable to Microsoft VPN connection on our Bb server so that it would
have
a connection into your network.

Is there an updated requirements document? I feel like the one you
sent
was *really* out of date, and I'm concerned that we don't have the
full
picture of what we need to do to get this going. I would much prefer
to
have a list of tasks and get them done rather than do this one at a
time.

We're in the process of migrating our SAN, so our infrastructure
folks
won't be able to make any changes to the firewall until Monday,
assuming
I'm satisfied that I understand what's going on.

Thanks.

Wonderful. Thanks much. I'll start with this.

In case I didn't give you this before - I'll need connection for our
web
servers through your firewall. The IP's of the web servers are:
63.174.228.83
63.174.228.84
63.174.228.89

After that is complete I will attempt a connection.

Wendy,

Here's all the setup info we have so far. We are definitely short the
financial gateway information, and I think we're still short some of

Hi Kyle,

For your review. I spoke to Evangela over the phone after she had
traveled to
the conference and helped her get local logon access, but I was not
aware of
the other circumstances described below until Liz emailed me this
morning --
particularly, their description of the rude interaction with Kass.

At this point, were I staying, I would talk to you about writing up a
formal
warning letter for him indicating areas where he needs improvement,
based on
this interaction and the interaction with Carolyn Beard Whitlow,
focusing on
improving his customer service skills, and (at this point) starting to
lay the
groundwork for termination if his customer service doesn't improve.
Since I am
not staying, I will defer to you on how you would like to handle it. I
am happy
to handle the disciplinary process with him but I recognize that my
status may
influence how that disciplinary process is perceived, and having
someone else
do it may be the better option.

I have written Liz back to apologize and let her know that we are
working to
address what happened.

        Subject
        Help Desk Incident

Hi Erin-

I wanted to talk with you about an incident that occured last week
with someone
at the help desk and one of our library student workers. I realize
that you
have already spoken to Evangela about this issue but following our
management
meeting yesterday I was asked to discuss it further with you.

The background as I understand it is as follows:

Byron called the help desk to arrange for a laptop for Evangela to
take to her
conference. When it was ready Byron told the person at the desk that
he would
be sending a student worker to pick it up. At no point did the person
at the
help desk mention that a student worker could not pick up the laptop.
However,
when our student, Mike, arrived to pick it up the person at the help
desk was
rude and told him that he should not be the one picking it up. In
addition, he
did not tell Mike specific login information that Evangela needed to
use the
laptop in California. Thus, when she arrived she could not use it.

The person at the help desk who was rude is the young man with a brown
ponytail
who often wears a kilt and uses a cane. Staff informed me yesterday
that this
is not the first incident with this young man and that he has been
rude and
generally unpleasant on several occasions. Unfortuantely I do not know
this
person's name and I'm unclear as to whether he is a student worker or
staff
member.

It seems an unfair expectation that IT&S can send students to pick
up laptops
at the library but that the library cannot send our students to do the
same
from the help desk. In addition, if someone from the help desk had
told
Evangela or Byron that they would need to be there in person to pick
up the
laptop that would have been fine. We understand the need for security
and
respect the restrictions IT&S needs to place on equipment and
other materials
to keep us functioning and secure. At the same time, we expect the
same kind of
respect for our staff and student workers.

I would be happy to discuss this matter further with the parties
involved if
necessary.

Thanks for your attention to this matter,

Liz
