Hi Fatima,
I will let other administrators share their experiences here but I think Email migration API should offer you more flexibility with controlling and scheduling your migration. The dashboard based migration is based on IMAP. For your other question, the answer is Yes. You need to upload rfc822 format messages using Email Migration API. Here is the Java developer's guide: http://code.google.com/apis/apps/email_migration/developers_guide_java.html -Anirudh On Mar 2, 11:07 pm, fatima <[email protected]> wrote: > I just want to make sure i am working on the right path, I was looking > at the options to migrate emails from legacy system to the google apps > domain. > - i could use the migration tool available through the administrators > account > - i could use the migration api and write a script to migrate email > Any experienced users having tried either or both want to point me to > the benefits of either of these? > I was thinking the tool through the administrator dashboard would > basically do the same thing that i would write a script for but the > time may vary in both solutions. > My other question would be regarding using the email migration api, do > i need to access each mailbox on the legacy system, take their emails, > write them in rfc822 format, then given them the gapps account info to > put it in. > I dont want to spend all my time figuring out how to do this to find > out i didnt need to.
