I'm using git to manage pending changes and other divergences

If you're experimenting in this area can I suggest Mercurial Queues as
an alternative to play with?

yeah, I'm also using mercurial queues.
that's the workflow I'm migrating away from.
it has some advantages, but it doesn't work so well as
a mechanism for sharing changes.

mq is basically similar to git rebase workflows,
and those really only work when you're a leaf
developer with private branches.

(generally I prefer using hg instead of git,
but yui is already using github, and no point in
mixing git+hg+svn. just git+svn is awkward enough.)
