I'm not a guru<g>, but from what I have learnt, it seems to me that Google Calendars lends itself nicely to your application. I think you only need one Gmail account for multiple calendars.
Go to your primary calendar and on the left-hand-side half-way down click on the + icon next to "My Calendars" and create as many calendars as you want - one for each candidate. Once you have created them, they show up as a list underneath "My Calendars" - click on each icon to the right and select "Calendar Settings" which will popup a "TABbed frame" - select the "Share this Calendar" and assign visibility and whoever (gmail address required here I think) to give permission to add events. If you choose to "share these calandars with everyone", then they become public calendars to anyone with a gmail account, otherwise (I thinK) they are just visible thru your account or your web site. The checkboxes on the left act as a filter for each calendar/candidate and of course, each candidate will show up in a different color. That should get you going.
