I have minimized the problem as follows. To reproduce, add the following item via protocol API, making sure that the start time is (current time + 1 day + N minutes).

This is really annoying for many of my users. I have tried many similar combinations. No difference if the event status is explicitly specified as invited or accepted, no difference if <gCal:syncEvent value="true"/> is set. I have filed bug http://code.google.com/p/gdata-issues/issues/detail?id=319 please make sure it receives elevated priority.
