I've also been experiencing this with the Thunderbird/Lightning combination and I think I can see how it's happening:
When the event is added from Lightning it shows in the Google Calendar as being created by [EMAIL PROTECTED] and the attendee list of non-gmail addresses is added as a non-responsive guest. At the 24-hour mark a message is sent to all non-responsive guests inviting them to the meeting. I have not dug into the API, but I'd like to clear this: Is the invitation being sent because Google Calendar thinks I'm the event organizer?
