Not everything that has the XML stamp on it is golden. rfc2445 is quite elaborate, Im sure this is somehow possible (i.e BYSETPOS, BYDAY). The big problem is rather that its a bitch to implement on client applications since the calculations are so time consuming. (if you have a calendar full of birthdays or other infinite rules you have to expand all such rules to find occurrences on a certain day).
This wont change if rfc2445 is transformed to xml. As to the original question, you should read the said rfc regarding BYSETPOS and BYDAY rules.
