"What I'm trying to achieve" is more-or-less covered in the original post.
To take the example of our own installation: I'm not an administrator on our Google domain at this time, so I'm only guessing, but given that the company email addresses are @ a domain of touchtonecorp.com, "touchtonecorp.com" would seem to be our Google Apps domain. But "touchtonecorp.com" is also the Internet domain of most of the rest of our Internet presence, including boxes that are physically on our premises (particularly including the AS/400 that is running my experiments, and will eventually run the prototype of this application), and a web site hosted by a web hosting company. So how would all of this fit together?
