BINGO! $MailMessage.IsBodyHtml
The other posts I've seen all list it as $MailMessage.IsHtmlBody, and it should be .IsBodyHtml. Once I swapped it, it worked like I need it to! And thank you Keith for the BrokenHaze link, that's where I got the fix... at the bottom of that link is a post indicating the mistype (right after the blog and rather hard to see). Thanks.
