Recently, an idea struck my mind when I came across news of two
prominent Indians reportedly missing! Why not Google work on a
project creating database of missing people across the globe?

I tried searching for any such database on the Internet, but though
could find some scattered here and there, could not find a
comprehensive - global - covering every nook and corner of the globe -
and reliable database: pointing out at the abundant potential yet
untapped.

Some Indian State Police organisations have their online database, but
confined to their respective states; the Central Bureau of
Investigation (Indian Interpol) has its database, but not very
comprehensive; and some missing children database are also available.

Assuming a person goes missing, the usual procedure is reporting the
matter to local Police and wait for the outcome that might take its
own time, if at all ends up in success. There is no mechanism for
follow-up or updating of status! If Google ventures on a
comprehensive project to fill this gap, it could end up in the opening
of a new realm.

One of India's former Union Ministers - George Fernandez - who
reportedly suffers from Alzheimer's disease has gone missing
recently. Another prominent politician of India - W. R. Varadarajan,
National Secretary of the CITU (one of India's largest Trade Unions)
and until recently a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist)
Central Committee and a former MLA from India's largest Parliamentary
constituency Villivakkam - has gone missing with the Police stepping
up their investigation.

When the fate of these prominent Indians remain a question mark
despite the lapse of several hours since their whereabouts became
unknown, imagine the fate of ordinary citizens of countries across the
globe! The internet having developed in such a magnitude, it is high
time that web developers think about this social requirement!
