No. You are nearly correct. Assuming that regardless of skill level,
each person is equally likely to pick group A, B or C:
In Round 1A, 500 people will qualify from group A and 500 people will
qualify from group B.

Then when Round 1B starts, the 500 top people from group C will be
better than anyone left from group A, leaving 500 places to be equally
distributed, so 250 people from group A and 250 more people from group
C will qualify. So from Round 1B, 250 people will qualify from group A
and 750 people will qualify from group C.

Finally, when Round 1C starts, the top 500 people from group B and the
top 750 from group C have already qualified. Thus the next 250 from
group B will qualify, leaving 750 places to be split between groups B
and C (375 each). Thus in Round 1C, 625 people will qualify from group
B and 375 people will qualify from group C.

Thus overall, 500+250=750 people will qualify from group A,
500+625=1125 from group B and 750+375=1125 from group C. So B and C
are the same, but "better" than A.

Of course, there are many parameters not being taken into account
here. CodeJam team - was this approximately the proportions last year?
