You don't even realize how many times I felt that way. But then you stand
up, shake the dust, and keep going. I'm occasionally participating
competitive programming events for 15 years, unfortunately without any
particular success. The only thing I know is that it made me a better
programmer, no matter where exactly in the final standings I was and how
slow/dumb I was not seeing obvious things during the contest rush.

P.S. After all, if it really was "so simple" no one would called it a
"problem", eh? ;)
