Hi there,

Going back to the original topic of this thread, I think some fetchers
at Google have gone mad for a few weeks now. I've noticed a huge
increase of traffic on some of my gadget xml file over the past month.
I did not take the time to research until now, and as far as I can
tell, I am getting the same xml file fetched over and over again,
sometimes 4 seconds apart, some other times 2 minutes apart. The HTTP
GET is successful (200) so there is no reason for that to happen.

The fetcher gone mad signs its requests with "Google OpenSocial agent
(http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html)". For October 1st to October
12th, I had for instance 65,000 fetches of one single xml file
(fetched about every 15 seconds). 60,000 of these queries came from
the mad fetcher, leaving 5,000 from legit fetchers (including
"FeedFetcher-Google; (+http://www.google.com/feedfetcher.html)").

I am preparing some data to share with Google for them to investigate.

My guess is that your gadget has been of the liking of the mad fetcher
as well... and you are being hit pretty hard by massive useless
queries.

I agree with the recommendations of others that it would be in your
best interest to move your gadget hosting on Code or Gmodules, but I
would assume that Code or Gmodules would not give unlimited bandwidth
either, and in a situation as the one we are facing now, your gadget
could be rendered unavailable as well.
