I do enjoy the "Canvas View" very much. But it is the left hand navigation that I'm not so happy about. And I have a 17" monitor set at 1280 x 1024 resolution! But I use the 3 column layout for the Beach Theme and have a news feed in the right column. Since iGoogle was always about the "I" (me), I formatted it so that it took advantage of my vast real estate. Everything fit. Perfectly. But only "just". The left hand navigation was enough of a shift to make my perfect page annoying.
My real complaint here, however, is that I was never notified that changes were coming. One moment my iGoogle page was the way "I" created it, and the next moment... something was... "wrong". I certainly "thought" it was wrong. Nothing as personal as an iGoogle page should change, so suddenly, without some kind of discussion! I had been working on a project at the time this occurred and I actually "shifted gears" to try and figure out what had happened to my personal iGoogle page. Perhaps this is why so many people are reacting with such anger. Imagine, if you will, that you've created your own blog site. You put time and effort into making it look exactly like you want it to look. And look you do! Every day you are in that blog site, posting new posts, formatting it just so, and the end result is the satisfaction of creation itself. Now... imagine one day you visit your blog site and find the look and feel has totally changed. Furthermore, you had no warning that it would happen. You'd probably try to "fix it" thinking something is wrong. That would be your first waste of time. Then you'd start trying to see if anyone else had the problem. Second waste of time. Finally you'd find out it was not a glitch, but a new "feature" and there was nothing you could do to "fix it". I realize the importance of what these changes reflect, now that I've "dug up" information about them. You are opening some doors that will eventually make customization truly a thing of personal creation. And technically, you've one again made an internet based page more application specific. I give you great credit for thinking ahead and "outside of the box". But you also have faithful loyal users who use the products you develop. You have a relationship with them. And making this kind of change without discussion seriously hurts that relationship. It violates our trust. I'm just sayin' Brother John (a.k.a. John A.
