Hi Phil,

Non-quirks-mode rendering will likely not be implemented in iGoogle
without it first being added to the OpenSocial and gadgets
specification. This issue has been raised a number of times, but
abandoned each time for various reasons. If you're interested in
seeing doctype support being added, please contribute to the relevant
discussions in this group: 
http://groups.google.com/group/opensocial-and-gadgets-spec/topics
or start your own topic.
