If you've done the appropriate searches of the gadget directory and haven't found anything, I'd venture to say that it probably doesn't exist. A shared countdown calendar sounds like a pretty specialized beast to me, and I wouldn't be surprised if nobody's built one yet. Additionally, the "database" you describe would probably need to be built externally; until OpenSocial is supported in the live iGoogle, there's no real way to implement sophisticated shared storage in the API. Technically, this isn't a simple gadget you're describing: it'll cost a few bucks to build.
