@Mike: Ah sorry, should have mentioned that we are using Prototype version 1.6.0.3. There hasn't been a new (stable) version of Prototype for quite some time so I kinda forgot about the version number.
@Rob: Thanks for confirming the issue and for filing it on the tracker! Personally, I reproduced this with Firefox 3.5 and 3.6 both on Windows 7 and Mac OS and with the current version of Safari on Mac OS.
