Hmm, not easy.

The gadget MUST be public, as it needs to be readable for the google
servers. You would need to add some password protection in an
additional server-side script. Your user could store his password in
the user prefs and your gadget sends the credentials to your server-
side script, which in turn replies with the actual information that is
to be displayed.
