Asked again about Google account recovery

Been asked yet again about Google's Account Recovery protocols and
locked out users.

Let me put it this way. As far as I'm concerned, while it's true that
the #Google Account Recovery nightmare isn't criminal, it's damned
close. I have -- many times -- externally and when I had the
opportunity internally -- suggested specific ways that Google could
vastly improve this situation on a cost-neutral basis. But Google has
told me that, essentially, they just don't think helping users who are
locked out innocently is worthwhile. So what if they lose all their
email and other data entrusted to Google? Just create new accounts!
Google argues that they can't really help these innocent users because
they have to watch out for all the bad actors trying to break into
accounts. These certainly exist, but cannot ethically be used as an
excuse for letting innocent locked-out users swing in the wind
helplessly. -L
