If it actually is preventing you from choosing another directory-- which the other replier seems to doubt--just make a symlink from that folder to the directory on the bigger drive that your store stuff on. I have symlinks from all the folders in ~/ (Musics, Pictures, Documents, etc) to folders on a much larger data partition. Just remember to put the other drives/partitions in f-stab so they automatically mount... hope this helps!
