A weekend party or vacation trip would have no problem generating
100-500 which would also be a *major-pain-in-the-ass* to deal with in
Picasa3.
I don't agree : I use Picasa 3.6 with the regular Ubuntu's wine
without problem, and on each of my trip, I come back with 500-700
pictures that are flawlessly integrated with my albums, faces are
well recognized and sorted (well it's rather long at first run ...)
but it is efficient.
500-700 "RAW" photos?
That's the point : jpeg photos....
:^( Maybe I missed something somewhere. My comment was that it was a
problem workiing with a large amount of "RAW" files due to one-at-a-time
processing. A "normal" four session weekend for me generates 1600 to
2000 shots and a tournament weekend will double that. To process those
number of files with Picasa3 would take much too much time. But even
with jpeg files, 500-700 would require much time if you were doing
something different to each photo besides just cataloging them. I'm
talking of using Picasa3 as an editor, not just a cataloger.
You are right, I use Picasa mainly as a cataloger, and very few editing
: red eyes mainly and some cropping.
And I don't use raw files because :
1- the raw format of my Olympus is not well recognized
2- I always have a batch for renaming all shots after the Exif date/time
info
3- I have a batch for geo-tagging my shots with my GPS.
And after that, I use Picasa to sort my shots to albums, do face
tagging, share the albums...
For more elaborated editing, I work with TheGimp.
For these purposes, Picasa is OK for me, and I agree that for mass
modifications, Picasa is rather weak.
But for cataloging, I prefer Picasa to Fspot .
