Okay, this is going to take a bit a setup since I want this to be
searchable, and I can not locate any specific mention of this issue
through any search engine.

The basic premise is that I can not find a method to control the
physical size of the Google Picasa .thumbnail storage folder.

On my Linux systems the Thumbnail folder generally seems to default
to /home/(username)/.picasa/drive_c/Documents and Settings/(username)/
Local Settings/Application Data/Google/Picasa2/db2 or /home/
(username)/.picasa/drive_c/Documents and Settings/(username)/Local
Settings/Application Data/Google/Picasa2/db3

These folders can, on their own, tend to get quite large. What I don't
know, and what I can't find any proper documentation on for either
Windows OR Linux, is the exact contents of these folders. The
filenames, which reference thumbnails, seems to be the storage
location for Picasa's on-the-fly display thumbnails.

I'm unable to locate any user-exposed controls that allow me to:
A: Clear out these database directory and rebuild
B: Set a hard file size for the folder itself
C: Set a location for the temporary folder

Let me set some further background data on why I'd like these controls
to be exposed:

A: One of the aspects of Picasa that I was able to find when searching
for thumbnail controls is that the database can become corrupted. The
method suggested for repairing the database is to uninstall Picasa and
re-install. So, this particular feature may already be in the pipeline
for future versions of Picasa.

B and C: I go through lots of photos, with the source creations for
sites like Mepisguides.com easily generating 200 or 300 screen-caps
per each guide, of which only a few are actually pulled and used in
the creation of a guide. My photo-storage system uses a two-drive
setup.

The primary drive contains the / and the /home/(username) data.
The secondary drive contains /home/(username)/(pictures)

This allows me to use a relatively smaller drive for my OS and typical
user-data, and a larger drive for generated pictures. Being able to
set a hard-file size for Picasa's data cache makes it easier to keep
tabs on the space the primary drive is using.

However, being able to set a location for the temporary folder /
database would allow me to specify that I use the /home/(username)/
(pictures) drive to store both the pictures and the Picasa
thumbnails.

For me, loosing out 10 gigs to thumbnails on a 500gb+ drive isn't a
big deal. Loosing out 10gigs in thumbnails and background data alone
on a small 32gig or 64gig Solid State drive... well... That's a large
amount of space to lose.
