(a) is simpler, and will use a newer wine which might have advantages.
And it's certainly been stated here recently that it should work, but
I'm wondering if "work" includes finding the previously saved
information (edits, picasaweb uploads, etc).

If the consensus is to do it as in (b), then that's certainly what I'll
do.  How have others done the upgrade?

But if the first way (a) is done, then won't 3.6 be installed in a
different directory tree than the old picasa?
