At least for me, the approach using the old 3.0 linux version does not work in every aspect: Printing does no longer work using a Windows Picasa version greater than/equal to 3.6. When printing images, all I get is a more or less dark patch in the size of the image with no recognizable content. The same printer is working flawlessly under the same Picasa version running under a recent and unpatched Wine. I'd be glad for any hints on where to tweak to make the printer work with the old Google patched version of Wine ...
