Although probably taboo to post in this group, before Google made
their AS3 (Flex) API available, a group called "Critical Mass" had
created a library specifically for Actionscript 2.

Note: I have not used it, but found it first when I started looking
for an API for Google Maps.

Here's a good post about how/why Critical Mass did this work:
http://experiencematters.criticalmass.com/2007/12/14/google-maps-in-a-flash/

I also wanted to take an opportunity and thank Google for porting over
and extending their API for Actionscript (although I don't think I'm
alone when saying that "API for Flash" is misleading, and should be
named "API for Adobe Flex" or "API for Actionscript 3") Flash and Flex
are two entirely different products, albeit both produce a swf file --
the concepts of doing so are completely unique. Personally, I point my
finger at Adobe for not promoting/communicating the differences
clearly enough.
