Yes. Thats true. I have a service for my project that returns country polygons using amf.
But the best probably would be to have the countries stored as static files in encoded polylines. Would you be interested in contributing to an open sourcenproject doing this? I think there is general a lack of data in a google maps friendly format to be used for thematic mapping. Javier.
