Yes, what we were seeing was that the scaled tiles would never go
away.  However, I tested it again today and the scaled tiles now go
away after a couple seconds.  Perhaps our connection was particularly
slow when I first tried 1.7.

Can you recommend a good way to override the behavior of the
continuous zoom?  The old approach was more appropriate for our app.
The only way I can think of is to manually instantiate two Map objects
at the same location with different zoom levels, and then perform a
custom transition between them.
