..I might be on to something. it seems PostGIS is kicking out slight asText() variations my PHP parser isn't expecting. for instance, there are a very few points that have stray parens either before or after them. note the XML for an offending polygon, below. I stumbled onto the solution by throwing some of my encode strings at this site<http://facstaff.unca.edu/mcmcclur/GoogleMaps/EncodePolyline/decode.html>, which showed an occasional "0" for a lat or long.
